In 1992, I left a 20-year career as an award-winning corporate trainer and moved to New Smyrna Beach, a small town on Florida's Atlantic coast, located south of Daytona and north of the Space Center. Those who know call New Smyrna Beach "Orlando's Beach" and "Florida's Best Kept Secret." We have a wide beach, with white sand that's as soft as talcum powder, numerous golf courses where you can perfect your game, and the Indian River, part of the Intracoastal Waterway, flowing through our town. There are a large number of older homes in our historic district on the mainland, and each month, you can see classic cars of the '50s and '60s on Canal Street, our "downtown." Part of our town is a peninsula between the River and the Ocean. It's a haven for boaters and fishermen, and provides an inlet from the Atlantic to the Indian River. You're never very far from the water in New Smyrna Beach. The town is also friendly to the arts and artists, offering workshops at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, and Images, a juried art show every spring.
