We have over 330 sun days a year here so the weather is great. It may be a desert but we sit at over 4000 feet. In thirty minutes you can be at over 8000 feet in the tall pines of the Sacremento mountains. There are elk, deer, bear and turkey in the mountains, deer, antelope and quail are also in the basin along with some exotic animals. Alamogordo is a great place to raise children or to retire.
